We are currently recruiting for a permanent A Licensed Engineer for our very well established Luton based client.  Our client offers First Class specialised fixed wing scheduled maintenance and AOG support in a very family orientated business.

Role information – A Licensed Engineer:

Location: Luton, Bedfordshire

Shift Pattern & Working Hours:

Luton – The Engineering Department operates 365 days a year.  Licensed Engineers are normally required to work 4 on 4 off shift pattern.  The standard shift is 11.5 hours, with a 30 minute unpaid break (total 12 hours) and the average working week is 40 hours.

Overtime as and when required is agreed with the Hangar Superintendent or Engineering Manager in advance, for which you will receive the options of payment or lieu time.

You are expected to work flexibly, as the needs of the business require. On occasions, alternative working hours will be required and this may include weekend / night working and/or providing for necessary coverage on an ‘On Call’ basis.

Summary of Duties – A Licensed Engineer

To be actively involved in line and base maintenance activities at Luton or Stansted base and in accordance with company procedures and requirements of Part 145 and as delegated by the L1/L2/L3/L4 and Senior Managers.

As part of a wider team, the Engineer will perform and assist in the performance of aircraft maintenance and where applicable certify tasks within the limitations of their company ‘A’ approval whilst maintaining the standards of aircraft maintenance.

As part of a wider team, the Engineer will be responsible for conducting and maintaining high standards of aircraft maintenance and to undertake such maintenance in a safe and timely manner as appropriate to the role, and in accordance with approved data, MOE/work instructions and regulations.

Working within a small team, the Engineer will at times be required to manage as necessary the company mobile phones throughout the shift and be able to provide feedback to customers.

Due to the nature of Corporate / Private Aviation, the Engineer will ensure that any enquiries from customers / crew are dealt with professionally and either deal with the request directly and /or liaise with the relevant internal departments to ensure that these are managed through to completion, providing regular feedback and acting when necessary as first point of contact.

The Engineer will actively be involved in both line and base maintenance and will have a pro-active and flexible approach and will at times be expected to work away from base.

In addition to the maintenance aspects of the job, the Engineer will also have an administration function and is responsible for the following:

  • Ensure that the aircraft documentation is completed in accordance with the company procedures.
  • Ensure the hangar hand over book is completed daily.
  • Audits of the Hangar and Facilities in accordance with Company Procedure as requested by Senior Engineer/ Engineering Manager.
  • Assist with planning scheduled maintenance.

Further responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to;

  • Ensure the effective completion of any delegated tasks during maintenance activities.
  • Ensure the allocated task is complete with the allotted time scales.
  • Ensure that the completed tasks are being recorded correctly onto the worksheets and the time recording is accurate and timely.
  • Ensuring that customer’s approval for the work/rectification to be carried out has been obtained and that payment terms, are agreed.
  • Ensure that customer’s approval for the purchase of spare parts up to the agreed limits has been obtained.
  • Liaise with other trades and departments or external Companies as necessary to initiate or complete the assigned task.
  • Maintain a high standard of appearance.
  • Notify the Compliance Monitoring Manager or the nominated representative of any defect or incident, which will affect the continuing airworthiness of the aircraft.
  • Respond effectively to due lists highlighting, test equipment and tool calibration and or inspection validity expiry dates. In doing so has responsibility for ensuring that all test equipment and tools in use are within calibration and/or inspection validity.
  • To take ownership of problems and deal with them in a professional manner.
  • To assist with the training and development of the staff.
  • To ensure that a safe and just culture is encouraged in the workplace.
  • Ensure aircraft maintenance is kept up to date as per the due lists.

Certification and Legal Responsibilities

  • Be conversant with the Company Procedures and departmental Work Instruction and have a good understanding of their content and work within the boundaries of the procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation is staged/completed correctly before the end of the shift and a detailed hand over of any work in progress is completed. This should be by at least one of the following methods verbal, physical and written also the handover log is to be completed

Health and Safety

Willing to work overtime periodically and remain flexible to suit the business needs.

Ensure that themselves and any staff working under their supervision obey the Health and Safety regulations and internal instructions in force at the time of the work being carried out i.e. use of safety goggles, safety harnesses etc.

Ensure that the highest standards of housekeeping of the hangar and workshops are maintained at all times.

Safety procedures are adhered to for the task in work i.e. safety barriers, warning notices, staff positioned around the area for function checks etc.

Assist as necessary in the completion of Risk Assessments.

In order to be successful in the role of A Licensed Engineer you will need the following requirements:

  • Will hold a full EASA or equivalent A licence.
  • Must have excellent written, oral communication and administrative skills and be IT literate (Word / Excel / MS Teams).
  • A full UK driving license is essential, as is holding the right to live and work in the UK.
  • You will also need to have a 5 year checkable history in order to obtain an airport ID pass.

Requirements for the role: Training Certificates, Updated CV (preferably in Word format).  You must have the Right to Work in the UK.
